Our Story

In 2022, Jared Champion, founder and executive director of Backcountry Champions, left a career in higher education to pursue more creative work. It took Champion a few years to find the exact space where he could connect his experience as a writer and teacher with meaningful work, and Backcountry Champions Creative Studio is the result of this search.

Backcountry Champions Creative Studio sets out to help others bring their most creative, reflective, and thoughtful work into the world. We focus on amplifying voices and stories about the outdoors, wilderness, and nature, all with the hope to make everyone feel more connected to the outside world. Here, we coach, consult, and guide writers and creators of all skill levels to help bring their nature-based projects to life.
